Biographical Information[edit]
Henry Stein, better known as Harry Stein, from Hannibal, MO played for an outfit called the Alton Blues in 1900 and was a long-time friend of Jake Beckley. He played in the Southern League for Ft. Worth in the early 1890s. He was thought for a time to be the unknown Harry Stanton who is listed as playing one game at catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals on the final day of the 1900 season, but further research has attributed that appearance to Tom Stanton, who was from St. Louis, MO and whose only other known appearance had come in 1904, with the Chicago Cubs when they were playing a game in St. Louis and their regular catcher was injured.
