The Hannibal Stags were an independent expansion team to the Mississippi-Ohio Valley League in 1952. The club, based in Hannibal, MO, finished fourth of eight teams in both halves and overall went 70-57. In the first round of the playoffs they stunned the team with the best regular-season record, the Danville Dans by taking 3 of 4 games. They then dropped 3 of 4 to the Decatur Commodores in the finale. The next season the name was changed to the Hannibal Cardinals when the formerly independent club affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals.
