Biographical Information[edit]
Dionys Rodríguez has pitched in the minors and for the Dominican national team.
Signed initially by the St. Louis Cardinals, he split 2018 between the DSL Cardinals Blue and DSL Cardinals Red; he was 4-0 with two saves and a 7.40 ERA overall. He was 2-1 with two saves and a 5.22 ERA for the 2019 DSL Cardinals Blue, striking out 32 but walking 19 in 26 innings. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving from the bullpen to the rotation, he had a 4-5, 3.36 record for the '21 Palm Beach Cardinals with a much better K:BB rate (88:22 in 69 2/3 IP).
With the 2022 Peoria Chiefs, he was 3-11 with a 4.59 ERA. He was 4th in the Cards chain in defeats but 7th in K (119, between Wilfredo Pereira and Michael McGreevy). He was one loss behind Midwest League leader Austin Love and missed the top ten in strikeouts by one behind Dax Fulton. Repeating at Peoria in 2023, he had a 3-4, 4.61 record. 2024 was his third year for the Chiefs; he was 3-1 with 3 saves, a 2.32 ERA and 52 K in 50 1/3 IP. He pitched twice for the Dominicans in the 2024 Premier 12. Debuting against Australia, he relieved Henry Henry in the 4th with two on, one out and a 4-0 deficit. He hit Ulrich Bojarski but retired Travis Bazzana and Aaron Whitefield to escape the jam. In the 5th, Robbie Glendinning singled but Dionys struck out Rixon Wingrove. After Glendinning was caught stealing, Tim Kennelly flew out. In the 6th, Darryl George and Alex Hall singled and a sac fly by Robbie Perkins made it 5-0. He walked Bojarski then gave way to Jorge Juan. His other outing came against Japan. He was the 5th of 9 pitchers in a 11-3 loss and the best of the bunch. He replaced Héctor Pérez in the 5th with a 4-2 deficit, men on the corners and no out. He got Kotaro Kurebayashi to hit into a run-scoring double play then Toshiya Satoh flew out. In the 6th, he whiffed Ryota Isobata and got Itsuki Murabayashi and Kotaro Kiyomiya on grounders for six outs on five batters. Gerald Ogando relieved him in the 7th. [1]
