Biographical Information[edit]

Robbie Perkins has played in the USA and Australia.

Perkins was signed by Colorado Rockies scout Phil Allen in February 2012. He was 0 for 5 as the third-string catcher for his hometown Canberra Cavalry in the 2012-2013 Australian Baseball League. He also was with Canberra for the 2013 Asia Series. He made his US debut with the Grand Junction Rockies in 2013, hitting .162/.234/.265. With the 2013-2014 Cavalry, he produced at a .203/.285/.294 clip, starting at catcher ahead of Jack Murphy.

Robbie was the primary catcher for the 2014 Tri-City Dust Devils, hitting .202/.280/.295 and throwing out 35% of those who tried to steal. With Canberra in 2014-2015, he improved his batting line to .299/.369/.403 while splitting time with Murphy. With the '15 Asheville Tourists, he hit only .200/.259/.304 but threw out 41% of attempted base thieves. He also struggled with Canberra in 2015-2016 (.183/.291/.198).

Despite his lackluster offense in the winter, he made the Australian national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, backing up Allan de San Miguel at catcher. He was the team's second-youngest player; only Aaron Whitefield (19) was younger than Perkins (21). He did not get into a game as Australia swept the field to win a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
