Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Michael McGreevy was the 18th player taken in the first round of the 2021 amateur draft, by the St. Louis Cardinals out the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was coming off a season in which he had gone 9-2, 2.92 in 16 games as a junior.
He began his professional career in 2021 with the FCL Cardinals, then was promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals after two starts. Between the two stops, he went 0-2, 9.39, but pitched only 7 2/3 innings as the Cardinals were careful about limiting his innings, like most teams are with top pitching prospects coming off a full college season. In 2022, he started the year with the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League, where he was the league's Pitcher of the Month in April, before moving on to the Springfield Cardinals of the Texas League. He was a combined 9-5, 3.99 in 28 starts and 144 1/3 innings, with a K/W ratio of 117/30. In 2023, he made 3 starts with Springfield before moving up to AAA and the Memphis Redbirds of the International League. It was a very good year as he finished at 13-6, 4.12 in 27 starts, with 123 strikeouts in 153 innings. The only poor mark was a high hit rate, with 177 hits allowed.
He made his major league debut for the Cardinals on July 31, 2024, as the starting pitcher against the Texas Rangers. He pitched a very good game, allowing 1 run on 5 hits over 7 innings, to earn credit for a 10-1 win. He had started the year in AAA with Memphis and had gone 5-7, 4.45 in 20 starts.
