Biographical Information

Dick Pawlow played as high as AAA and later was a college coach.

Pawlow signed with the San Francisco Giants out of college. He hit .277/.387/.366 for the St. Cloud Rox in 1958 in his pro debut. He was 9th in the Northern League with 85 walks and 9th in the Giants chain in walks. In 1959, he played for the Springfield Giants (.265/.438/.449 in 16 G) and Eugene Emeralds (.354/.393/.478 in 101 G). He was 3rd in the San Fran system with 147 hits (behind Chuck Hiller and Chuck Strange), tied Willie McCovey and Ralph Alomar for 9th with 26 doubles, tied for 3rd with 9 triples (behind Art Cole and Willie McCovey) and was second to McCovey in average among those with 400+ plate appearances.

Moving up to the Rio Grande Valley Giants in 1960, he produced at a .291/.364/.362 clip with 77 runs. In 1961, he was with Rio Grande Valley, which became the Victoria Giants during the season. He hit .262/.342/.347, tying Daryl Robertson for 9th in the Texas League with 61 walks and was 5th in swipes (between Dick Berardino and Robertson). With the 1962 Springfield Giants, he batted .269/.372/.365, drew 85 walks, scored 90 runs and hit 30 doubles though he made 12 errors in the outfield. He was 6th in the Eastern League in runs (between Ossie Chavarria and Ken Harrelson), tied Jim Ray Hart for 2nd in two-baggers and was second to Eugene Giannini in walks. Among Giants minor leaguers, he was 8th in runs, tied for 5th in doubles and 4th in walks (between Tommy Pruitt and Felix Maldonado). In '63, his fielding for Springfield improved to .987 but his offense faded (.223/.346/.279, 5 2B). In 1964, he hit .253/.348/.331 for Springfield, with 66 runs and 68 walks. He tied for 10th in the EL in runs.

He then became a coach, at Saint Joseph's College and then from 1970-1998 at Western Illinois University. He was 547-558 at Western Illinois and missed the 1974 College World Series by a game. He coached Rick Reuschel and Rick Short at WIU.
