Biographical Information[edit]

Dean Pelman has pitched for the Israeli national team.

The Floridian played for the Tel Aviv Comrades in Israel. [1] In the 2019 B-Level European Championship, he relieved Matt Soren in the 8th with a 8-0 lead over Bulgaria and threw a 1-2-3 inning for Israel before Dan Rothem closed it out. In the finale, he relieved Gabe Cramer with a 1-1 game in the 5th against Russia. He threw two shutout innings but tired in the 7th, hitting Yunior Valiente and Geidys Soler before Jonathan de Marte relieved; both runners scored but Israel rallied to bail him out. [2]

Pelman remained with Israel for the 2019 European Championship. In his first outing, he relieved de Marte in the 10th with a 4-2 lead, two on and no outs against Germany. Simon Gühring singled but Kevin Kotowski was thrown out at home and former major leaguer Donald Lutz hit into a game-ending double play. Pelman registered Israel's first save in a European Championship. His next outing was not as sharp. Relieving Jon Moscot in the 7th with a 6-4 deficit against the Netherlands, he allowed a hit to Roger Bernadina and walked Curt Smith. Sharlon Schoop grounded out but Ademar Rifaela hit a 3-run homer and Hendrik Clementina a solo shot. Yurendell de Caster singled and Kalian Sams cracked the inning's third dinger. Pelman retired Dwayne Kemp and gave up a Calten Daal single before Bernadina finally ended the six-run frame. Eric Brodkowitz relieved in the 8th. He bounced back in his third outing, against Italy. Relieving Benny Wanger with a 7-6 deficit in the 9th, he retired Drew Maggi, walked Sebastiano Poma, walked John Andreoli then got Chris Colabello and Erick Epifano on flies. His 18.00 ERA was Israel's highest, double Cramer's mark. Israel still won a spot in the 2019 Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier by finishing 4th. [3] In the Olympic Qualifier, he did not play, but Israel won a spot in the 2020 Olympics, the first Israeli team to make an Olympics since the 1970s. [4]
