Daniel Fernandes played in the Hoofdklasse for five years.
Debuting with DOOR Neptunus in 2013, he was 11-for-34 with two walks, two doubles and a triple. He appeared as a pinch-runner for Rafaël Jozefa in the 2013 Holland Series when they swept the Vaessen Pioniers. [1] In the 2014 European Cup, he was 2-for-7 with two walks, a double, two runs and two RBI. After hitting .246/.307/.290 in the 2014 Hoofdklasse, he batted .252/.308/.292 when they topped the Amsterdam Pirates in the 2014 Holland Series. [2]
Moving to the Pioniers in 2015, he improved to .316/.396/.429 with 34 runs and 11 doubles in 42 games and pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings. He was 4th in the league in runs, tied Christian Diaz for 5th in hits (53), tied Mike Duursma for 6th in doubles, was 5th with 72 total bases (between Diaz and Kenny Berkenbosch), ranked 4th with 114 assists (between Nick Urbanus and Benjamin Dille), tied for 9th with 22 double plays (tied with Kevin Moesquit, Jamie Verheyleweghen and Mark-Jan Moorman) and tied for 9th with 11 errors.
Returning to Neptunus, he was 2 for 9 with 4 walks and a HBP in the 2016 European Champions Cup, tying for 4th in walks and OBP. [3] He batted .311/.452/.396 in the 2016 Hoofdklasse, good for 4th in OBP (between Vince Rooi and Quintin de Cuba), 9th in RBI (27) and tied for 5th in HBP (6). [4] He backed up Rien Vernooij at 1B in the 2016 Holland Series and caught a game after Gianison Boekhoudt was ejected and the other catcher, Dashenko Ricardo, had already left the game; he was 1 for 4 with a steal, a walk and a run; he had 12 putouts, an assist and a passed ball. Neptunus again beat the Pirates. [5]
Helping Neptunus win the 2017 European Champions Cup, he hit .357/.412/.714 with 4 runs in 4 games, with a homer off Esteban Prioul, in the first round. He was 10th in slugging. In the finale, against Bologna, the left fielder was 1-for-4 in a 7-3 win. [6] His last Hoofdklasse season was his best as he posted a .356/.442/.500 batting line and handled 150 chances error-free (138 PO, 12 A). He led the 2017 Hoofdklasse in fielding, was 8th in average (between Jeffrey Arends and Joey Eeman), tied Danny Rombley for 5th in runs (31), missed the top-ten in slugging by .004 and in OBP by .003, tied Dille and Zerzinho Croes for third in hits (47), tied Shurman Marlin for 9th in RBI (27), tied Gilmer Lampe and Boekhoudt for second in total bases (12), was 9th in walks (21), tied for 5th in triples (2) and tied Diaz for 4th in total bases (66). [7] In the 2017 Holland Series, he did not fare nearly as well - 1-for-19, BB, 7 K, 2 R, .895 FLD% (2 errors after none in the regular season). Neptunus still repeated, his fourth Holland Series with them to go with the European title that year. [8]
For his Hoofdklasse career, he had hit .311/.399/.412 with 105 runs and 87 RBI in 159 games; he had 76 walks and 32 doubles.
With Aruba in the 2018 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he was 2 for 11 with a walk, run and three RBI, going 0-for-2 in steals. Only Eugene Helder had more RBI for Aruba. [9]
