Rien Vernooij is a minor league infielder. A member of the Dutch junior national team in the 2006 World Junior Championship, Vernooij was 2 for 5 for Neptunus in 2006 in his Hoofdklasse debut. He moved to HSV Sparta/Feyenoord in 2007 and batted .258/.331/.318 while fielding .883 at third base, his primary position. He still was able to ink a deal with the New York Mets and began his professional career in 2008 with the VSL Mets, hitting .246/.329/.323 in 18 games but made 7 errors. He was then moved to the Kingsport Mets.

Vernooij hit .197/.253/.224 for the GCL Mets in 2009.
