Biographical Information[edit]

Chi-Pin Chiu has played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.

Chiu was on Taiwan's team in the 1995 Universiade and 1997 Asian Championship (Bronze). [1] He turned pro with the Chinatrust Whales in 1998, going 5 for 20 with a double, four runs and four RBI, handling 34 chances error-free as a backup at 2B. In 148 plate appearances over 68 games in 1999, he hit .236/.267/.307, followed by .223/.257/.256 in a career-high 237 PA and 77 G in 2000. He fielded .952 as the Whales' main second baseman that year.

In 2001, he hit .266/.310/.286 followed by a career-best OPS by hitting .261/.303/.435 with his first two homers and a career-high four triples in the 2002 CPBL. He tied for 5th in the league in three-baggers. In 2003, he batted .225/.250/.281, backing up at second and third. His batting lines were .212/.257/.296 in 2004 and .221/.274/.308 in 2005. After going 0-for-3 with two walks in 2006, he transitioned to coaching. He coached for the Whales in 2007-2008. In 2019, he coached for the Beijing Tigers of the China Baseball League. [2]

Overall, Chiu had 1,009 plate appearances and hit .233/.272/.304 with 101 runs and 72 RBI in 482 CPBL games. He had fielded .957 in 314 games at second, .903 in 93 at third and 1.000 in 20 in the outfield.
