The Chinatrust Whales were a member of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. They joined the CPBL in 1993 when the circuit expanded from four to six teams. They never won a title, but made the Taiwan Series in both 1999 and 2002.
The Whales were owned by the financial company, Chinatrust, which is known for its banking branches across Taiwan and the United States.
Following the 2008 season, the Whales folded after the third gambling/game-fixing scandal hit the team in a 6-year period.
