Universiade

From BR Bullpen

The Universiade is a multi-sport event for university students around the world run by the International University Sports Federation. It was first held as a summer tournament in 1959, but did not feature baseball until the 1993 Universiade. Baseball was also featured at the 1995 Universiade, the 2015 Universiade and 2017 Universiade. It is also known as the Summer Universiade to distinguish it from the Winter Universiade, which is held the same year as the summer edition.

In 1993, the US won, followed by South Korea and Canada. Cuba won in 1995, with South Korea getting Silver and Japan Bronze. In 2015, Japan and Taiwan tied for the Gold and South Korea got the Bronze. Countries have not sent elite squads as often as to the World University Championship; the 2015 US team was actually the Cal State Fullerton squad instead of a true Team USA.
