Biographical Information

Bryan Rodríguez played in the minors, Nippon Professional Baseball and for the Dominican national team.

Rodríguez was signed by San Diego Padres scouts Randy Smith, Felix Feliz and Jose Salado in 2010. He went 4-1 with a 3.14 ERA for the DSL Padres in his first season. After missing the 2011 season due to a right elbow sprain , he had a 6.26 ERA in 11 games for the AZL Padres and allowed 10 runs in 4 1/3 innings for the Eugene Emeralds in 2012. He teamed with Robbie Erlin and Uber Paz for a no-hitter against the AZL Giants; he worked the 4th through 6th. Rodríguez was 2-8 with a 3.19 ERA for the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2013, and he went 8-9 with a 4.16 ERA for the Lake Elsinore Storm the next year. He was 8th in the Padres chain in wins, tied Colin Rea and Jason Lane for third in losses and tied Bryce Morrow for 8th in strikeouts (104).

He pitched 4 innings for the Gigantes del Cibao in the winter, and he was 6-14 with a 6.44 ERA for the San Antonio Missions in 2015. He reached AAA that season, but his ERA was 9.75 in 3 games for the El Paso Chihuahuas. He led the Texas League in losses (one ahead of Chad Bell) and tied for second in minor league baseball (one behind Mitch Horacek). He was 2-0 with a 3.72 ERA in the winter. In the 2015 Premier 12, Rodriguez relieved Luis De La Cruz in the 8th inning against the USA, and he pitched a shutout inning, with a ground-out from Tyler Pastornicky, a strikeout against Adam Frazier and a comebacker from Dan Rohlfing. He then started against Venezuela, and he surrendered 3 runs, including a homer to Gregorio Petit, in 5 innings. Joel Payamps took over with a 5-3 lead but the Dominicans couldn't hold on. Rodriguez was 3-5 with a 3.51 ERA for the Missions in 2016, and he went 4-8 with a 5.11 ERA for the Chihuahuas. Only Jerry Keel had more losses among San Diego's farmhands. He had a solid 0.49 ERA in 7 games for the Gigantes, and he was on the provisional pitcher pool for the Dominicans in the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated. He went 8-8 with a 4.90 ERA with El Paso in 2017, tying for 5th among San Diego's farmhands in victories. He left the Padres system after the '17 season.

Rodríguez signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters in 2018, and he was 3-2 with a 5.26 ERA in his first season in Japan. He improved to a 6-7 record with a 3.25 ERA and 8 holds in 34 games in 2019, but he missed most of the 2020 season due to left knee injuries. Rodríguez collected 24 holds with a solid 2.74 ERA in 47 games in 2021, and he was 5th in holds (tied with Frank Herrmann and Chia-Hao Sung). He notched 8 holds with a 2.20 ERA in 2022, but his ERA rose to 5.09 with 12 holds in 37 games in 2023.

He throws a fastball (peak 97.5 mph), knuckle curve, slider and change-up. His favorite player is Johnny Cueto.
