Biographical Information[edit]

Uber Paz has pitched in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.

Paz signed with the San Diego Padres at age 17; the scout was Robert Rowley. He made his pro debut with the 2009 DSL Padres, going 1-5 with a 5.06 ERA and walking 21 in 37 1/3 IP. In 2010, he returned to the same club and improved to 2-1, 3.12 with 52 K in 60 2/3 innings. With the '11 DSL Padres, the right-hander was 0-4 with a 5.66 ERA. He spent part of the summer with the AZL Padres, going 4-3 with a 5.16 ERA and with 50 K to 13 BB in 59 1/3 IP. He tied for 8th in the Arizona League in strikeouts. For 2012, he spent time with the AZL Padres (0-1, Sv, 5.14 in 9 G), Eugene Emeralds (0-1, 4 R in 1 1/3 IP) and Lake Elsinore Storm (4 R in 2 IP).

Paz pitched for his home nation in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his only outing, he relieved Mainor Mora with a 6-1 deficit, one on and one out in the bottom of the 8th against Colombia. He served up a homer to the first batter he faced, Steve Brown. He struck out Reynaldo Rodriguez, walked Ignacio Suarez and got Donovan Solano on a fly to end the inning.
