Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Salado was a minor league catcher who spent two seasons in AAA.

Salado debuted in 1969 with the Billings Mustangs (.252/.371/.338) and Clinton Pilots (2 for 11, 5 BB). His .991 fielding percentage tied Gene Holbert for the best by a Pioneer League catcher, while his 30 assists and 4 double plays were the most. He won All-Star honors, joining future major leaguer Terry McDermott as the selected backstops. In 1970, he played for the Newark Co-Pilots (7 for 18, 2 2B, HR, 2 BB) and Clinton (.220/.328/.276 in 80 G). With the 1970 Pilots, he split catching duties fairly evenly with Darrell Porter.

Jose's offensive production remained low in 1971 with the Raleigh-Durham Triangles - his batting line was .228/.327/.306 - while his fielding percentage was around league norm for a catcher. He hit .213/.300/.254 for the 1972 Danville Warriors, backing up Charlie Moore. He split 1973 between Danville (.276/.382/.382 in 52 G) and the Shreveport Captains (.256/.322/.295 in 26 G, again backing up Moore). He ended his time in the Milwaukee Brewers chain by going 9 for 66 with 3 walks for the 1974 Sacramento Solons as the back-up to Art Kusnyer. Overall, he had hit .232 in 396 games in the US minors. He also had pitched nine innings, allowing only one run, but walking eight.

Jose was not done yet in the minors, playing for the 1976 Cordoba Coffee Growers, but batting only .211/.271/.239 in 43 games to wrap things up.
