History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2007 Milwaukee Brewers thrilled their fans with a strong start in April, and continued with a strong June showing. In all, the Brewers spent 121 days in first place in the NL Central division. However, they slowed down noticeably in the second half of the season, and were overtaken by the Chicago Cubs as their pitching collapsed down the stretch.
Facing a risk of finishing below .500 in spite of their great start, the Brewers rallied to win their last two games against the San Diego Padres, to force San Diego into a one-game playoff with the Colorado Rockies to determine the winner of the National League Wild Card. The first of these wins came with the Padres ahead with two outs in the bottom of the 9th and All-Star closer Trevor Hoffman on the mound; Tony Gwynn Jr. ripped an RBI triple with two strikes to send the game into extra innings and prevent the Padres from clinching a postseason spot. The Brewers also won the season finale, ensuring a finish above .500 for the first time since 1992 (they had finished at .500 once during that stretch).
