The 2000 Hoofdklasse season featured nine teams. DOOR Neptunus successfully defended their title as they beat NTNT ADO in the best of three Holland Series. Neptunus won the deciding game 8-7 in 11 innings.

Former major leaguer Robert Eenhoorn was both MVP and Coach of the Year (something no one had done before), while Mike Crouwel and Remy Maduro were the league's top offensive stars. Former major league outfielder Rikkert Faneyte tied for the most complete games pitched.

The league moved back to wood bats after using aluminum for some time, bringing offensive levels down; the league home run lead fell from 16 in 1999 to 7 this year.
