The 1999 Hoofdklasse was known as the Start Baseball League for sponsorship reasons. DOOR Neptunus easily won the regular season finishing seven games ahead of second-placed Baseball Express Kinheim. They then beat the Minolta Pioniers and Mr. Cocker HCAW to win the Holland Series.

Rob Cordemans won the first of a record ten Pitcher of the Year Awards (through 2017), leading the league in ERA and wins. Former major leaguer Robert Eenhoorn led in home runs and doubles while another ex-big leaguer, Rikkert Faneyte, was MVP. Lars Koehorst and Raymond Hofer also featured prominently on the league leaderboards.
