History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 1997 Chicago Cubs set the record for worst start in National League history, by losing their first fourteen games before finally winning for the first time on April 20th, in the second game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets. That shattered the league record, set by the 1988 Atlanta Braves, of ten straight losses to open a season, but was still far from the major league record of 21 losses by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles.
