The 1974 International League season was the 89th in the league's history, and ended with the Rochester Red Wings winning their second Governors' Cup in four years.

The Toledo Mud Hens moved their affiliation from the Detroit Tigers to the Philadelphia Phillies, forcing the IL to rename their two divisions since the AL/NL split was now 5-3 in favor of the NL. The Expos moved their Triple-A club from Hampton, VA to Memphis, TN as well.

The playoff format introduced in 1973 remained in place, though with no Junior World Series this year, all series were now best-of-seven instead of best-of-five.
