Biographical Information[edit]

Brother of Mike Andrews, Rob Andrews came up after Mike's major league career ended to play five big league seasons of his own. Like Mike, he was a second baseman.

Rob was born in Santa Monica, CA and went to high school in Torrance, CA. Picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 10th round of the 1970 amateur draft, he played in the minors from 1971 to 1974 and in 1976, hitting .300 during the last three seasons. The Orioles traded him after the 1974 season in the Lee May deal, and as a rookie he became the regular second baseman for the 1975 Houston Astros. Although he hit .238 without power, he drew enough walks to have a .310 OBP, close to the team average. In 1976 his batting average rose to .256 (he also played 22 games at Memphis, hitting .325), and after he joined the San Francisco Giants in 1977, it went up to .264.

For many years, he has operated the Rob Andrews Youth Baseball Camps.
