History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 1947 Chicago White Sox held the record for most players 40 years or older for 60 years, until the 2007 New York Mets broke it. The White Sox had five such players: Luke Appling, Earl Caldwell, Joe Kuhel, Thornton Lee and Red Ruffing. They also set an American League mark by beginning the season with 22 scoreless innings before allowing their first run; that record lasted until bested by the 2015 Detroit Tigers.
