Biographical Information

Don Kolloway played 12 years in the major leagues and five in the minors. Kolloway was a good contact hitter who seldom walked and struck out infrequently. Although 6'3" and 200 lbs., he hit only 29 homers during his major league career. Easily one of baseball's bigger second basemen of the time, he also played a lot at first base for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, and Philadelphia Athletics . While playing for the Sox in 1941, he stole second, third, and home in the same inning of a game. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II entering in July 1943 and being discharged in March 1946.

After his baseball career ended, he owned and operated a tavern called Kolloway's in Blue Island, Illinois from 1956 to 1969. Later he worked in voter registration for Cook County. He died at age 75 at St. Francis Regional Hospital and is buried at Cedar Park Cemetery in Blue Island.
