Biographical Information[edit]

Tyler Eppler has pitched in the minor leagues, Mexico, NPB, KBO and the CPBL.

Eppler was second-team All-Conference in junior college then 5-2 with a 3.41 ERA after transferring to Sam Houston State for 2013. [1] He was 9-6 with a 3.20 ERA in 2014, finishing third in the Southland Conference in wins. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 6th round of the 2014 Amateur Draft; the scout was Trevor Haley. [2] He proposed to his wife the same day. [3]

He was 3-2 with a 3.49 ERA for the Jamestown Jammers in 2014, his .95 WHIP second in the New York-Penn League (between Marcos Molina) and Joe Musgrove). He was also 6th in ERA, between Will Anderson and Sean Brady. [4] He went 6-1 with a 2.58 ERA with the Bradenton Marauders in 2015 and briefly appeared for the Altoona Curve. He allowed only one homer in 71 2/3 IP. He lost Game 2 of the playoffs. [5]

The tall Texan then had a 9-10 record with a 3.99 ERA for the Curve in 2016, and he tied Matt Gage and Daniel Camarena for 8th in strikeouts in the Eastern League (106). He tied Mitch Keller for 8th in the Pirates chain in wins and tied Alex McRae and Austin Coley for 3rd in losses; he tied McRae and Dario Agrazal for the most starts (27) and was 7th in K.

Eppler reached AAA in 2017, and he had a 4.89 ERA and a 8-9 record with the Indianapolis Indians. He tied for 8th in the Bucco farm system in wins and tied Drew Hutchison for second in losses. He improved to 13-6 with a 3.59 ERA in 2018, ranking 2nd in wins (one behind Cole Irvin), 10th in ERA and 6th in strikeouts (52 behind Michael Kopech) in the International League. In the Pittsburgh chain, he tied Cam Vieaux for the most victories and was 5th in Ks (between James Marvel and Luis Escobar).

The Orix Buffaloes of the NPB signed Eppler in 2019, and he was 4-4 with a 4.02 ERA in 24 relief outings.[6] He then signed with the Washington Nationals, and he had a 2-9 record with a 7.75 ERA with the Rochester Red Wings in 2021. In 2022, Eppler pitched for the Kiwoom Heroes and he had a 6-8 record with a 4.30 ERA. He lost to the SSG Landers in Game 2 of the 2022 Korean Series. He also took the hill in Game 6, when Kiwoom lost and SSG got the title.

The Fubon Guardians signed him in 2023, and Eppler went 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA before he requested the Guardians to release him on June.[7] He was 4-1 with a 4.23 ERA for the Sultanes de Monterrey in the rest of the 2023 season. Eppler returned to Taiwan in 2024, and he joined the Wei Chuan Dragons.
