Trovin Valdez stole over 250 bases in 9 seasons in the minors, including parts of two years at AAA.

Valdez was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 27th round of the 1993 amateur draft. He hit .212/.256/.252 for the 1993 GCL Orioles, with 21 steals in 26 tries. He split 1994 between the Bluefield Orioles (.288/.337/.408, 43 R in 55 G, 20 SB, 6 CS) and Albany Polecats (.262/.290/.323 in 20 G, 9 SB, 1 CS). He was 7th in the Appalachian League in average, between Rick Short and Bryan Warner. The speedy Dominican batted .245/.288/.299 with 34 steals (but was caught 21 times) for the 1995 Frederick Keys. He tied Scott Pagano for the Carolina League in times caught stealing and also led the league's outfielders with 13 errors. That winter, the Orioles dealt Valdez and Curtis Goodwin to the Cincinnati Reds for David Wells.

Trovin hit .254/.302/.330 for the 1996 Winston-Salem Warthogs, with 26 steals in 40 tries, and went 0 for 1 for the Indianapolis Indians. He opened 1997 with the Burlington Bees (.252/.338/.294 in 33 G, 14 for 18 in steal attempts). He finished the year in the Montréal Expos system, playing for the West Palm Beach Expos (.234/.289/.319 in 55 G) and Harrisburg Senators (.310/.370/.357 in 13 G).

In 1998, the Bani native played for the Jupiter Hammerheads (.264/.304/.364, 22 SB, 7 CS), Harrisburg (.256/.291/.388, 14 SB, 2 CS) and the Ottawa Lynx (5 for 18, 2B, 3B, SB, CS). He bounced around the independent leagues in 1999, appearing for the Reno BlackJacks (.272 in 36 G), Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs (.188/.230/.250 in 38 G) and New Jersey Jackals (.234/.275/.447 in 12 G). With the 2000 San Angelo Colts, Valdez put up a .286/.339/.367 line and stole 53 bases in 64 tries. He led the Texas-Louisiana League in swipes. He wrapped up in 2001 with the Greenville Bluesmen, hitting .241/.293/.296 in 14 games and going 9-for-12 on the basepaths.
