Biographical Information

A fairly successful bench player for most of his career, Curtis Goodwin collected at least two hits in 10 of his first 11 career starts. Known for his incredible speed, he stole at least 50 bases three straight seasons in the minors. His major league career went from 1995 to 1999, with five different teams. He had the most at-bats as a rookie with the Baltimore Orioles in 1995, when he hit .263 in 87 games and stole 22 bases. He matched the stolen base total in 1997, when he was with the Cincinnati Reds. In 1998, playing for the Colorado Rockies, he topped the 100-games mark for the only time, with 119, but only had 159 at-bats as he was mainly used as a defensive replacement in the outfield, his speed being useful in covering the vast outfield expanses of Coors Field.

Two of his cousins are NFL Hall of Famer Walter Payton and NBA star Gary Payton. He is not related to Tom Goodwin, a contemporary outfielder also gifted with outstanding speed and a good glove.
