The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks were the successor to the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks; when the parent company, the Daiei corporation, begun having financial trouble, they sold the team to SoftBank, an internet services company. Softbank opened up the wallets, allowing for the signing of ex-major leaguers Tony Batista and Jolbert Cabrera to shore up the team, which finished first in the 2005 Pacific League title in its first season but lost in the playoffs to the Chiba Lotte Marines. The company also has tried to modernize the team's marketing, with webcasts of games. They won their first Japan Series in 2011 and won again in both 2014 and 2015 as well as four straight titles from 2017 to 2020.
