Team History[edit]

The first Scranton Miners played in the 1887 Pennsylvania State Association.

In 1892, the name was revived by a team in the Pennsylvania State League and ran played for two years.

A third Scranton Miners team played in the Eastern League in 1896-1897.

The Atlantic League used the name from 1899-1900.

The fifth Scranton Miners began play in the New York State League in July 1904 when the Schenectady Electricians relocated to Scranton, Pennsylvania in midseason. The team won pennants in 1906 and 1908 before the league folded after the 1917 season.

A sixth Scranton Miners was established when the New York-Penn League was formed in 1923. This club won a regular season title in 1935 and a playoff championship in 1936 but ceased operations after the 1937 season.

A seventh and eighth, and to date last, Scranton Miners club later played several seasons in the Eastern League (1944-1945 and 1952-1953).
