Biographical Information

Canadian-born Harry Fisher was signed as an amateur free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates before the 1947 season and assigned to the Tallahassee Pirates. Unknown to the young pitcher at the time, his first year would be his only winning season in twelve years (1947-1959) of professional baseball. Harry threw a 17-9 record with a 3.15 ERA, at the Georgia-Florida League, pitching 197 innings.

Fisher, a right-hander, had two short stays with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1951 and 1952 going 1-2 in three starts and five relief appearances, all during the 1952 season. A good-hitting pitcher from the left side, Fisher was 3 for 10 as a pinch-hitter and hit .278 with the Pirates and all three of his appearances in 1951 were in the role of pinch-hitter. This was it for Harry in the Show.

Fisher rose to the .500 mark at four other times in his pitching career, going 8-8 for the New Orleans Pelicans in 1949, hitting the 10-10 mark with the Hollywood Stars in 1953 and go 2-2 with the Tulsa Oilers and the Louisville Colonels in 1957 and closing out his twelve-year minor league run by going 4-4 for the Asheville Tourists in 1959. This concluded his minor league pitching run with 65 wins against 79 losses with a 4.15 ERA while pitching 1,140 innings.

You could call Harry a pretty fair country hitter for a pitcher. On his hitting resume he hit for a .311 average with 491 base-hits including, 58 home runs, in 1579 at-bats. In 1950 while with the New Orleans Pelicans, Harry busted the .400 barrier with 66 base hits in 156 at-bats for a .423 average.

Fisher died on September 20, 1981, at age 55 in Waterloo, ON Canada.
