Biographical Information

Jim Garry pitched one game for the Boston Beaneaters in 1893. It was a tiny part of an extensive professional career in baseball that stretched from 1891-1913. He also managed in the minors in 1899, 1904-1905 and other times.

For much of his minor league career he was an outfielder. He was appointed a minor league umpire in 1914.

"Jimmy Garry in condition has no peer as a fielder, and that fact is well known." - The Sporting Life correspondent in Syracuse, April 10, 1897 issue

"Jimmy Garry was the last of the 1897 champions to leave the city . . . If there is a better fielder in the Eastern League than Jim Garry the Syracuse fans haven't seen him up to date." - Sporting Life's Syracuse correspondent in the Oct. 23, 1897 issue

Sporting Life of Feb. 3, 1917 carried his obituary. It said he played high school ball in Great Barrington and then local ball in Blackinton. He suffered injuries during minor league play in 1894 which kept him out for some time. He lived in Dalton, MA during the winters and had been employed by General Electric. His death was thought to have been caused by a work injury that had happened some time previously.
