Biographical Information

Infielder Ron Farkas played 11 years in the minors, 6 of them at AAA.

Farkas debuted in 1972 with the Melbourne Twins, hitting .298/~.431/.421 . He was fifth in the Florida East Coast League in batting average. In 1973, Ronnie played for the Geneva Twins (.285/~.378/.386) and the Wisconsin Rapids Twins (1 for 9, 2 BB, 6 K). The next season, Farkas was solely with Wisconsin Rapids, where he hit .285/~.401/.379. He was sixth in the Midwest League in average, led in walks (88) and apparently was second to Moe Hill in OBP. After two years at third base, Ron moved to shortstop that season. He led MWL shortstops in fielding percentage (.938), double plays (68), putouts (194) and assists (412). He lost the All-Star nod at short in the MWL to Alex Taveras.

In 1975, Farkas was on the Reno Silver Sox. He hit .235/~.336/.348 with 10 triples, tied for second in the California League. He was claimed by the California Angels in the minor league draft.

Ron spent most of 1976 with the El Paso Diablos (.315/~.445/.429). He was seventh in the Texas League in average, behind Willie Aikens and ahead of Rance Mulliniks, both infield mates of his. The entire El Paso infield made the TL All-Star team; Farkas had been moved to third to allow Mulliniks to play short. He went 4 for 24 with the Salt Lake City Gulls as well.

In 1977, Farkas changed hands one more time, as the Angels traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor league veteran Mike Easler. He was on the Cardinals 1977 spring roster, but didn't play in St. Louis. Ron hit .343/~.420/.471 in 49 games for the Arkansas Travelers that year and .158/~.289/.211 in 25 games for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Farkas spent 1978 with the Springfield Redbirds. He hit .274/~.364/.404 while alternating between third and short. In 1979, he was back in Springfield and he batted .248/~.350/.331 in a similar role. In his third year with the Redbirds, Ronnie batted .262/~.396/.308 in 96 games.

In 1981, Farkas moved to the Cincinnati Reds organization and played for the Indianapolis Indians, hitting .309/~.401/.349 in 86 games, primarily at shortstop and first base. In his final minor league year, he returned to Indianapolis and put up a .249/~.347/.339 line as a corner infielder.
