Biographical Information[edit]
Rene Francisco has been a minor league player, scout and executive.
Francisco was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 21st round of the 1988 amateur draft and by the Chicago Cubs in the 38th round of the 1989 amateur draft. He hit .277/.314/.365 for the Geneva Cubs that fall, but made 9 errors in 59 outfield games. With the Peoria Chiefs in 1990, he batted .237/.303/.285 in 75 contests to end his playing career. He was then a coach at Palm Beach Community College.
Francisco began his scouting career with the Atlanta Braves in 1993, working his way up to International Coordinator for Latin American Scouting. He was with the Los Angeles Dodgers as Director of International Scouting for 3 years, then returned to the Braves in the same role. In 2006, he joined the Kansas City Royals as Special Assistant to the General Manager/International Operations, which he still is as of 2013.
Francisco has been involved in the signings of Noel Argüelles, Wilson Betemit, José Capellán, Darryl Collins, Roman Colon, Omar Hernández, Gonzalo Lopez, Andy Marte, Zach Miner, Alberto Odreman, Brayan Peña, and Tony Pena Jr..
