Biographical Information[edit]
Noel Argüelles was 3-2 with a 5.82 ERA in 9 games for La Habana in 2007-2008. The youngster struck out 22 but walked 21 in 21 2/3 IP that season. After one game of the 2008 World Junior Championship, he defected from Cuba along with José Iglesias. He was timed at 94 mph during tryouts after his defection.
In January 2010, he was signed by the Kansas City Royals and scout Rene Francisco for a $3.4 million bonus. He missed that year due to a shoulder injury. In 2011, he made his US debut with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. After five games, he was 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 23 2/3 IP. He last played in the affiliated minors in 2014, finishing with a record of 10-30 with an ERA of 5.47. He then extended his career by playing a couple games in the Venezuelan Winter League and in the independent ranks in 2016.
