Biographical Information[edit]
Mark McKnight has been a player, manager and scout.
McKnight was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the 33rd round of the 1979 amateur draft. He played 8 games that summer for the Bristol Tigers, going 4 for 31 with 1 double, 2 walks, 1 steal, 5 runs and 2 RBI. He handled 30 chances at second base without an error. He managed the Florence Flame to a 7-10 record in the short-lived 1995 Atlantic Coast League. He also scouted for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds, signing Matt Diaz, Paul Shuey, Pep Harris, Matt Williams and Josh Hamilton.
From 2000 to 2002, McKnight was the National Scouting Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Pirates that saw the Pirates draft and sign Jose Bautista, Sean Burnett, Chris Young, Jeff Keppinger, Matt Capps, Nate McLouth, Rajai Davis, Nyjer Morgan, Zach Duke, Chris Shelton and Ian Snell among others.
