Biographical Information

Pitcher Pep Harris played three seasons in the majors with the California Angels/Anaheim Angels.

Selected by the Cleveland Indians in the seventh round of the 1991 amateur draft, Harris made his pro debut that summer with the Burlington Indians, going 4-3 with a 3.29 ERA in 13 starts. He gradually progressed through their chain, playing at the AAA level in 1995.

Prior to the 1996 season, Harris was traded along with Jason Grimsley to the California Angels for Brian Anderson. In August of that year, he was called up to the majors to replace Jim Abbott, and he made his big league debut on August 14th, throwing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief against the Cleveland Indians. He ended his first big league campaign with a 2-0 record, and over the next two seasons, he appeared in 110 games out of the bullpen for the Angels.

While playing in Venezuela following the 1998 season, Harris injured a tendon in his left elbow, and he missed the entire 1999 campaign following surgery. He was later signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, but he did not pitch in 2000 as well. He returned to the mound in 2001, playing for the Amarillo Dillas of the independent Texas-Louisiana League. He went 11-9 with a 3.33 ERA in 23 games for the club and also served on the team's coaching staff that summer.

Harris was the cousin and major league contemporary of outfielder Danny Clyburn.
