Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Iván Rodríguez has pitched as high as AAA and for the Mexican national team.

He debuted in 2013 with the Vaqueros Laguna; the 16-year-old allowed six runs on eight hits in three innings. In 2014, he improved to 6-4, 3.72 as a regular in the rotation, walking only 20 in 87 IP. He was superb for Mexico in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, allowing one hit and no runs in 5 1/3 IP. He saved Edwin Fierro's win over Panama. He was 7th in the Games in ERA, between Jorge Pacheco and Yosvany Torres; the six players ahead were at 0 with more innings pitched. [1]

He had a 3.27 ERA for the Charros de Jalisco that winter, in his Mexican Pacific League debut. He was 8-8 in 2015, but with a 6.24 ERA. Control was not a problem as he walked 25 in 102 1/3 innings. He tied for 9th in the Mexican League in losses. His 77 runs allowed were third-most, behind Fredy Quintero and Lorenzo Barcelo. He was 0-2 with a 3.57 ERA that winter for Jalisco.

In '16, he pitched for Laguna (0-1, 6.92 in 7 G) and the Tigres de Quintana Roo (1-1, 6.46 in 11 G). He was 1-1 with a 7.84 ERA in a rough winter. He did not pitch in the Mexican League in 2017. He was 2-0 with a 4.86 ERA in winter ball for Jalisco. In 2018, the Mexican League went to a two-season format. He was 2-3 with a save and a 7.66 ERA in the spring for Quintana Roo then improved to 2-1, 3.86 for them in the fall campaign.

With the 2018-2019 Charros, he had a 3.66 ERA in 20 games, not registering a decision. In 2019, he was 4-2 with a save and a 3.12 ERA in 61 outings for Quintana Roo. He tied Mario Meza for 6th in the LMB in appearances. He was 2-2 with a save and a 4.05 ERA in 32 games that winter, giving him 93 games pitched in a calendar year. The 2020 LMB season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rodríguez was back in action in the winter, going 6-1 with a 3.99 ERA for Jalisco. He tied for third in the LMP in wins, behind Juan Pablo Oramas and Luis Miranda. He started 2021 with the Tigres (1-0, 3.86 in 3 G) then was shipped to the Diablos Rojos del México for Fabián Anguamea, Octavio Acosta and Carlos De Leon. [2] He was 1-0 with a 2.88 ERA after the trade. While he had pitched 297 games as a pro, he was still only 25 years old entering 2022.
