Biographical Information[edit]

Mario Meza has pitched as high as AAA.

Meza debuted in 2012 with the Tigres de Quintana Roo, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 11 games. He split 2013 between Quintana Roo (1-2, Sv, 6.00 in 17 G) and the Saraperos de Saltillo (0-6, 7.87). He spent the summer of 2014 with Saltillo (1-1, 8.71 in 6 G) and the Leones de Yucatán (3.75 ERA in 20 G). He had a busy winter with the Águilas de Mexicali (2-1, 2.33 in 37 G, 47 K in 38 2/3 IP, .93 WHIP). He was 5th in the Mexican Pacific League in appearances on the hill.

He missed 2015, presumably due to injury. He returned to the Leones in 2016 and did not miss a beat (4-2, 1.59 in 53 G). The Chicago Cubs signed him that winter, though he would not pitch in a game in their chain as they loaned him back to Yucatán. [1] He was on the designated pitcher list for the Mexican national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated. [2]

Meza was 2-0 with a 3.26 ERA in 31 games for the 2017 Leones, striking out 32 in 30 1/3 IP. That winter, he was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA for Mexicali. He was 2-0 with a 5.25 ERA in the spring season of 2018 for Yucatán (Mexico trying a two-season year) and 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA in the fall season. He also pitched for Saltillo in the fall (0-1, 9.95 in 9 G). He went 0-2 with a 3.30 ERA in the winter, tying for 9th in the Mexican Pacific League with 32 games pitched.

The right-hander made Mexico's squad for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier.
