Kansai6 Baseball League
The Kansai6 Baseball League was one of the oldest University Leagues in Japan. It was founded by Doshisha University, Kansai University, Kwansei Gakuin University, Kobe University, Kyoto University and Ritsumeikan University in 1931. There were two famous rivalries - the Kansai rivalry and the Doshisha-Ritsumeikan rivalry in the old Kansai6 League. The four University Leagues in the Kansai region - the Kansai6, Kinki University Baseball League, Hanshin University Baseball League and Keiji University Baseball League - merged in 1959, and the Kaisai6 League was the top league. Champions from the three other leagues would play a series first, then they would have a chance to advance to the Kaisai6 League. However, since the teams which composed the rivalry often dropped into the second division, the attendance of the Kaisai6 League was affected. Thus, Doshisha University formed a new league in 1982, and Kansai University, Kwansei Gakuin University Kyoto University and Ritsumeikan University joined it. The other two universities which were in the Kaisai6 League - the Osaka University of Commerce and Kyoto Sangyo University - chose to stay in the league, and four other schools joined to build up the present Kaisai6 league. The spring champion represents the league at the All-Japan University Baseball Championship Series, and the fall champion can advance to the "Kansai University Tournament". They then play teams from the Kinki, Hansin, Keiji and Kansai Big 6 University Baseball League, fighting for a spot in the Meiji Jingu Baseball Convention.
