Biographical Information[edit]

Julian Rip has played in the Hoofdklasse and for the Dutch national team.

Rip was 1 for 3 for UVV in the 2014 Hoofdklasse, turning 16 that year. He hit .412/.447/.471 for the La Rochelle Admirals in the 2014 Collegiate Baseball League Europe. [1] In 2015, he was 1 for 8 with two walks for UVV. The next year, he became a regular for UVV, hitting .269/.320/.376.

He was on the Dutch team that won the 2016 European U18 Championship, producing at a .143/.367/.238 clip with 9 runs and 4 steals (in 4 tries) in 6 games. He tied Aldrich De Jongh for third in runs, was second with five times plunked (one behind Linus Holmberg) and tied for second in steals (one behind De Jongh). [2] He did not play as much in the 2017 Hoofdklasse as he came to the US for junior college; he hit .228/.323/.333 for UVV that season, then .125/.192/.125 in 27 plate appearances in 2018, again missing most of the season for college.

In 2019, he hit .319/.417/.500 with 30 RBI in 47 games for USC Upstate and was among the Big South Conference top-10 in OBP. [3] In the 2019 European Championship U23, he was at .333/.529/.583 with 5 walks and 5 runs in 5 games. He was 9th in slugging (between Nolan Soliveres and Benjamin Goffaux), was 6th in OBP, tied for 3rd in runs, tied for 1st in walks and tied for 2nd in steals. [4] He batted .368/.493/.561 for Upstate in '20 and .345/.456/.500 with 43 runs in 52 games in '21.

Julian hit .552/.606/.724 in 34 plate appearances for HCAW in the 2021 Hoofdklasse, his time limited once again by his collegiate season. He batted .600/.667/1.050 with 11 runs and 7 RBI in 5 games when the Netherlands won the 2021 European Championship U23, finishing second in average (.025 behind Martin Vissac), tied Marco Cardoso for 4th in RBI, led in runs (3 ahead of Delano Selassa), led with 3 triples (no one else had multiples), was 4th in OBP (between Tyriq Kemp and Miguel Rodríguez) and led in slugging (.050 ahead of Vissac). He did not take MVP, which went to teammate Jeandro Tromp. [5] He then also won Gold with the Netherlands in the 2021 European Championship, his debut with the senior national team. He debuted against the Czech national team, pinch-hitting for Jiandido Tromp late in a win and striking out against David Mergans. His other game, he started in left and hit 9th in a rout of Sweden, going 1 for 5 with two runs and a steal; his hit came off Per Sjörs. [6] He hit .200/.375/.200 with 6 runs in the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, tying Braves farmhand Shean Michel for the team lead in runs. [7]
