Biographical Information[edit]

Linus Holmberg has played in the Elitserien and for the Swedish national team.

He debuted in 2015 in the Elitserien, hitting .118/.198/.118 for the Stockholm Monarchs. His .919 fielding percentage led qualifiers at second base. [1] In the 2016 European Junior Championship, he batted .211/.448/.316 with six hit-by-pitch and five runs in six games, fielding .921. He led the event in times plunked and tied for 5th with 16 assists. [2] For Stockholm that year, he improved to .269/.352/.301 and had a 4.70 ERA. He fielded .887 at short, splitting time there with Max Hill. [3]

He was an exchange student in the US in 2017, playing for Santa Barbara High. [4] He made it back for limited time with the Monarchs (.363/.421/.363). [5] The next year, he fell to .247/.368/.305 and 1-3, 6.48 but again fielded well, leading qualifying shortstops at .946. [6]

In 2019, he batted .288/.409/.326 for Stockholm, pitched three shutout innings and fielded .948 at SS. [7] He made Sweden's squad for the 2019 European Championship. He debuted in their third game, playing third base and grounding out against Donny Breek of the Dutch national team his first at-bat. He finished the event 0-for-11 for the event, drawing two walks (one from former big leaguer Michael Roth), splitting third base with Nico Filice. He fielded .824. [8]

Holmberg hit .358/.418/.435 in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. He tied for 8th in the league in average. [9]
