Biographical Information[edit]

Jonathan Gálvez has played as high as AAA, getting over 1,000 at-bats at that level.

Gálvez was signed in 2007 by San Diego Padres scouts Randy Smith and Felix Francisco. He hit .272/.449/.370 with 47 walks in 54 games for the 2008 DSL Padres while fielding .957 at short. He tied for 7th in the Dominican Summer League in walks and was 9th in OBP. In his US debut with the 2009 AZL Padres, he batted .295/.399/.503 with 14 steals in 20 tries, 30 walks and 45 runs in 52 games. He was 9th in the Arizona League in OBP, 5th in runs (between Cody Decker and Rymer Liriano), tied for 4th in doubles (16), tied for 8th in home runs (6) and 5th in walks. He fielded just .870 at SS and saw time at 2B as well as a result.

In 2010, the teenager fielded .905 as the shortstop for the Fort Wayne TinCaps while batting .259/.360/.397 with 18 steals in 25 tries and 58 walks. Moving up to the Lake Elsinore Storm in '11, he produced at a .291/.355/.465 clip with 36 doubles, 13 home runs, 84 runs and 86 RBI while stealing 37 bases in 46 tries. He fielded .960 at 2B. One drawback was his dropping walk rate, as he only drew 41 free passes. He tied Kole Calhoun for 6th in the California League in doubles and tied for fifth in steals. Among Padres farmhands, he was 5th in hits (142), tied Reymond Fuentes for 7th in runs, tied Jake Blackwood for third in doubles, was 5th in steals and was 6th in RBI.

Jonathan missed time in 2012 with injuries to his left ankle and right hamstring; for the year, he hit a solid .292/.364/.426 for the San Antonio Missions. He opened 2013 as the main second baseman for the Tucson Padres and hit .278/.342/.385 with 22 steals in 29 tries as a regular in AAA. In 2014, he was a utility man for the El Paso Chihuahuas (who had replaced Tucson) and produced at a .280/.354/.449 clip but did not get the call to the majors.

Signing with the New York Yankees, he hit .237/.323/.302 in 40 games for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to open 2015 then was released and was picked up by the independent Bridgeport Bluefish (.302/.400/.395 in 12 G). Shortly thereafter, he joined the Dominican national team for the 2015 Pan American Games. He was 2 for 12 with 5 whiffs and one homer, splitting 2B with Manuel Mayorson and Angelo Mora, backing up Jordy Lara at 1B and backing up Rubén Sosa in LF. His dinger came off former major leaguer Vicente Padilla of Nicaragua. After the Games, he was signed by the New York Mets and hit .246/.303/.369 in 42 games for the Binghamton Mets. In the 2015 Premier 12, he was back on the Dominican squad, going 2 for 4 with a walk, two runs and two RBI, backing up Wilson Betemit at 1B. He homered off Mark Serrano.
