Biographical Information

Jordy Lara has won minor league batting and RBI titles.

Lara was signed by Seattle Mariners scouts Patrick Guerrero and Luis Scheker in 2008. He hit .202/.389/.342 in his pro debut with the DSL Mariners, walking 32 times in 50 games. With the same club in 2010, he hit .191/.335/.349 but was among the Dominican Summer League leaders in home runs (7, tied for 3rd, trailing Ravel Santana and Yeicok Calderon), RBI (46, tied for first with Elio De La Rosa) and walks (44, tied for 5th with Adderly Rosa). In his US debut, he batted .257/.311/.474 with 8 homers for the Pulaski Mariners. While his average rose significantly, his walk rate dropped off sharply (12 in 51 G after 44 in 61 G in 2010).

In 2012, Lara hit .243/.306/.418 with another 8 homers for Pulaski and also drove in 41 in 63 games. He tied Aris Alcantara for 7th in the Appalachian League in RBI and tied for 10th in circuit clouts as well. He split 2013 between the Clinton Lumber Kings (.260/.317/.440, 63 RBI in 98 G) and High Desert Mavericks (.311/.333/.492, 9 RBI in 15 G); for the year, he had 27 doubles and 13 home runs while alternating between 3B, 1B and DH.

Jordy had a big 2014. Starting with High Desert, he hit .353/.413/.609 with 22 homers and 80 RBI in 102 games; as of July 27, he was leading the California League in hits and total bases and was second in average and 3rd in slugging. He was then promoted to the Jackson Generals, for whom he batted .286/.326/.492 in 33 games. He finished the year with 91 runs, 177 hits, 40 doubles, 26 homers, 104 RBI and a .337/.392/.581 line. He easily led the Cal League in average (.029 over Diego Goris), was second in OBP (.025 behind Marquez Smith), was second in slugging (.014 behind Smith), obviously 2nd to Smith in OPS and 9th in homers (despite missing over a month after his promotion). He was third in the Mariners farm chain in runs (behind Gabriel Guerrero and Tyler Smith), led in hits (12 over Guerrero), led in doubles (6 more than Daniel Paolini), was third in homers (behind D.J. Peterson and Jabari Henry), was second in RBI (7 behind Peterson), led in average (.030 over Guerrero), was second in OBP (.006 behind Henry), was second in slugging (.003 behind Henry) and led in total bases (305, 32 more than Peterson). He led all players in the affiliated minors in hits (one over Wilmer Difo) and was second in total bases (20 behind Kris Bryant). He was named to the Cal League All-Star teammate DH (Matt Olson was picked at 1B). He then kept on producing in winter ball with the Aguilas Cibaenas, hitting .298/.441/.553 in 15 games in his Dominican Winter League debut, drawing 12 walks.

After his stellar '14, 2015 was a big disappointment for Lara, who hit .242/.308/.377 with 7 home runs and 56 RBI for Jackson. He took some time off to play for the Dominican national team in the 2015 Pan American Games; he hit .174/.240/.391 as their starting first baseman, but did lead the team with 5 RBI in six games (one ahead of Mario Mercedes and Aneury Tavárez). He had his best game in a 6-4 upset of Silver Medal winner Team USA, hitting a two-run homer off David Huff to put the Dominicans ahead then driving in one run and scoring another. He had a poor winter as well - 2 for 17, 2B for the Aguilas and 0 for 2 with a RBI for the Estrellas Orientales.

A free agent, he signed with the Atlanta Braves in November 2015.
