Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Gabriel Guerrero is the nephew of Vladimir Guerrero and of Wilton Guerrero and cousin of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Seattle Mariners on February 10, 2011. The scouts were Patrick Guerrero, Bob Engle and Frank Taveras Jr.

He began his professional career with the DSL Mariners in 2011, hitting .236 in 57 games at age 17. In 2012, he improved significantly, as he hit .355/.409/..605 in 50 games in the Dominican Summer League to earn a promotion to the United States. There, he played another 18 games with the AZL Mariners, hitting .333. He hit 14 doubles and 15 homers between the two stops, showing excellent power potential; he also collected 72 RBIs in the 68 games. In 2013, he was promoted to the Clinton LumberKings of the Class A Midwest League and held his own in spite of being more than two years younger than the average player in the circuit. He put up a batting line of .271/.303/.358 in 125 games, as his homer production fell to 4. In 2014, however, he took advantage of the hitter-friendly environment in which the High Desert Mavericks of the California League were playing to hit 28 doubles and 18 homers in 131 games, scoring 97 runs and driving in 96. His batting line was .307/.347/.467 and he was selected to play for the World Team in the 2014 Futures Game.

In 2015, Gabriel began the season with the Jackson (TN) Generals of the AA Southern League. In 48 games, he was struggling with a .215 average, 2 homers and 15 RBIs when he was included in a high profile trade on June 3rd. Along with his Jackson teammate SS Jack Reinheimer and major leaguers Welington Castillo and Dominic Leone, he headed to the Arizona Diamondbacks in return for OF Mark Trumbo and P Vidal Nuno. After the 2016 season, he was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds and it was with them that he made his major league debut in September of 2018.
