He was named a league All-Star and the Player of the Year. The San Francisco Giants signed him that winter, but the San Diego Padres took him in the Triple-A round of that year's Rule V draft. He spent three seasons in the Padres system, peaking at Double-A; in his first campaign, he hit 17 home runs with 76 RBI in 131 games and earned Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star honors. He was a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star in 2013, as well. He returned to indy ball for the final three years of his career, posting averages of .321 and .302 in the first two of those campaigns and hitting 10, 11 and 14 home runs those years, respectively.

In the affiliated minors, he hit .248/.287/.365 with 47 home runs and 315 RBI in 654 games over 7 seasons.
