Biographical Information[edit]

Jayden Gonesh has pitched in the Hoofdklasse and for the Dutch national team.

Gonesh debuted in the 2020 Hoofdklasse; the 18-year-old had a 1-1, 6.29 record for the Silicon Storks, walking 28 in 24 1/3 IP but also fanning 33. He was 7th in K. [1] In 2021, he improved to 4-3, 3.68. He had 39 K and 19 BB in 36 2/3 IP, improving his control. He tied for 9th in the league in wins. [2] He struck out four and allowed one run in 3 2/3 IP for the Netherlands in the 2021 U-23 European Championship. [3]

He then made the Dutch squad for the 2021 European Championship, their youngest player (Aaron de Groot and Raf Cocu were next, born in 1999, 3 years prior). He did very well in his two appearances for the champs. In the opener, he relieved former Phillies farmhand Mike Bolsenbroek in the third inning with a 1-0 lead over Slovakia. He struck out Jakub Ižold, walked Denis Pakši and then whiffed both Martin Brunegraf and Tomáš Biskorovajný. After the Netherlands made it cushy with a six-run third, he allowed a Mario Gottschall single to open the fourth then ran into trouble by walking Martin Lukačka and Jakub Horáček. He got out of the jam, though, by striking out Michal Ešmír and getting Michal Puškár to ground into a double play. Cocu relieved him in the 5th. His other outing came versus Sweden. Relieving Kaj Timmermans in the 4th with two out, a 9-5 deficit and one on, he walked Joel Johnson before striking out Joel's brother Daniel Johnson. He went 1-2-3 in the 5th against Thomas Paulich, Niklas Melin and Trolle Brandt (K). In the 6th, he got Peter Johannessen on a grounder and Oskar Jerfsten on a fly, walked Per Sjörs then retired Tommy Lindell. Cocu took over; Gonesh would get the win. He led the champions in most innings with a 0.00 ERA. [4]

In the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he had a 4.67 ERA in four outings, tied for the team lead in that category. [5] He came to the US for college in 2021-2022, going to Western Oklahoma State, where several other Dutch national team players had gone, most notably Andrelton Simmons. [6]
