Biographical Information[edit]

Jarrett Grube made his major league debut in 2014.

Grube was 8-2 with a 1.30 ERA as a high school senior and was All-State. In two years at Vincennes University, he went 12-7 with a 3.00 ERA and set a school record with 172 career whiffs. Transferring to the University of Memphis, he was 5-5 with a 3.68 ERA as a junior. He improved to 9-4, 2.82 as a senior with 110 K to 28 BB in 102 IP. He tied for third in Conference USA in wins and was third in strikeouts (behind Greg Bunn and Derek Hankins). He joined Bunn and Casey Hudspeth as the All-Conference starting pitchers. The Colorado Rockies took him in the 10th round of the 2004 amateur draft, one pick before Justin Maxwell.

Jarrett began his pro career with the Tri-City Dust Devils, going 4-3 with a 4.24 ERA; in 57 1/3 innings, he struck out 55 and walked 13. In 2005, he was 5-5 with a 6.02 ERA for the Asheville Tourists; his 14 hit batsmen tied Maximo De La Cruz, Charlie Morton and Ching-Lung Lo). With the 2006 Modesto Nuts, he improved to 4-2, 3.69 in 42 appearances, with just 17 walks in 70 2/3 innings. He went 7-3 with a 2.53 ERA in 52 games for the Tulsa Drillers the next year, tying Adam Bright for 7th in the Texas League in games pitched and also tying Bright for 6th in that department in the Rockies chain. Despite that fine season, he was sent back to Tulsa for 2008 and faded a bit (4-3, 4.26 in 49 G, 33 BB in 67 2/3 IP). He was 8th in the TL In pitching appearances.

He opened 2009 with Tulsa (0-1, 5 R in 5 1/3 IP) and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (1-1, 6.00 in 13 G, 32 H in 18 IP) and was let go by the Rockies, finishing the year with the independent Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (3-1, 3.36). He began 2010 back with Southern Maryland (3-3, 2.06 in 8 G), doing enough to draw the interest of the Seattle Mariners, who signed him. Assigned to the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, he had a 5-5, 3.23 record over 15 starts the rest of the way except for two games with the Tacoma Rainiers (6 R in 8 2/3 IP). That winter, he was 5-3 with a 3.88 ERA for the Cardenales de Lara, with only 8 walks in 51 innings. He tied for 4th in the Venezuelan League in wins, trailing Yorman Bazardo, Jan Granado and Ryan Vogelsong. He was 0-2 in the postseason, though.

In 2011, Grube pitched for the Jackson Generals (5-2, 3.11 in 14 G, 20 BB in 84 IP) and the Rainiers (4-4, Sv, 4.95 in 14 G). He struck out 120 in 144 innings for the year. He was 1-0 with a 3.97 ERA for Lara that winter. In the summer of 2012, the veteran sputtered for Tacoma (0-5, 9.26, .391 opponent average). He was then picked up by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (3-3, 2.98 in 8 G, 5 BB in 45 1/3 IP). With the 2012-2013 Cardenales, he was 0-1 with a 2.28 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 27 2/3 IP. Had he qualified, he would have finished second to Wilfredo Boscan in ERA.

Grube spent 2013 with Arkansas (4-1, 3.12 in 7 G) and the Salt Lake Bees (7-5, 4.47), with 153 strikeouts in 149 innings. He tied for third in the Angels chain in wins (one behind Brandon Hynick and Mark Sappington) and second in strikeouts (7 shy of Matt Shoemaker). He also was second with 11 hit batsmen.
