Biographical Information[edit]
Hamilton Bennett was a minor league pitcher.
Bennett threw a perfect game on May 1, 2010, against the University of Virginia's College at Wise, the 20th perfecto in NAIA history. He helped Tennessee Wesleyan College make the 2010 NAIA College World Series, their first NAIA College World Series trip. He was picked by the New York Mets in the 29th round of the 2010 amateur draft; the scout was Erwin Bryant. One round later, the Mets took Josh Edgin.
Bennett was 2-2 with a 3.49 ERA in 19 games for the 2010 Brooklyn Cyclones. In 2011, he was with the Savannah Sand Gnats (2-0, 14 Sv, 1.83, 56 K in 54 IP, .166 opponent average) and St. Lucie Mets (1 R in 3 IP). He was third in the Mets chain in saves, behind Edgin and Dale Thayer, and tied for 7th in the South Atlantic League in that department. During 2012, he was 7-2 with a 2.55 ERA in 41 games for St. Lucie, allowing a .227 average.
Bennett then joined the British national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers (his grandparents were British). In his lone outing, he appeared in the 16-1 loss to Germany. He replaced Daniel Cooper with a 8-0 deficit in the 5th, one on and one out. He retired Eric Suttle, walked Matt Vance and fanned Max Kepler to escape the jam. In the 6th, he was less effective, starting by hitting Donald Lutz and serving up a single to Aaron Altherr. Bennett retired Max Boldt on a fly, but then issued another walk, this one to Kai Gronauer, to load the bases. Matt Weaver hit a sacrifice fly, then Toby Gardenhire struck out. Estevenson Encarnacion relieved him in the 7th.
He last played professionally in 2014.
