Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Weaver has been a minor league infielder.

Weaver was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 9th round of the 2009 amateur draft. The scout was Kevin Barry. Matt debuted with the GCL Braves and went 3 for 22 with a triple and a walk before being promoted to the Danville Braves, where he hit .291/.322/.364 in 35 games. He was a utility man for the 2010 Rome Braves, playing every position except catcher and batting .267/.311/.359 in 100 games, with a high of 57 at 2B. In his 1/3 of an inning pitched, he walked two. He was named the Braves' Organizational Player of the Month for August, when he hit .377.

In 2011, Weaver played for the Lynchburg Hillcats (7 for 39, 3B, HR, 3 BB) before being sidelined with injury. After a 3-game rehab stint with the GCL Braves (2 for 9, HR, 3 R), he hit .286/.333/.423 in 53 games for Rome and allowed one run in one inning. He did not play catcher or center field but appeared at every other position. The next year, Matt fell to .216/.261/.371 as a utility man for Lynchburg, though he showed some power (10 HR in 278 AB).

In the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was a star performer for the German national team, going 5 for 14 with a walk, double, 2 homers, 5 runs and 9 RBI in four games. He was second on Germany in slugging (behind Aaron Altherr), tied Altherr for the team lead in homers and was first in RBI. For the Germany qualifier, he tied Altherr for second in home runs (behind Canada's Jimmy Van Ostrand), was second in RBI (one behind Van Ostrand) and tied for second in runs (behind Van Ostrand again). Much of the damage came on a grand slam off the Czech Republic's Petr Minařík and a 3-run dinger against Britain's Estevenson Encarnacion.
