Biographical Information

Gabe Suarez peaked at AAA. He played for 19 different teams in his first 9 seasons as a pro.

Suarez was picked by the Montréal Expos in the 33rd round of the 2003 amateur draft out of high school and again in the 26th round of the 2004 amateur draft out of junior college. With the GCL Expos, he hit .210/.259/.234 as a backup outfielder. In 2005, he was with the GCL Nationals (0 for 3) before moving to the independent leagues and hitting .208/.278/.218 for the Lincoln Saltdogs. He played in the Colorado Rockies chain in 2006, hitting just .165/.238/.220 in 28 games for the Tri-City Dust Devils, now as a utility infielder.

He began 2007 with the Cincinnati Reds' Sarasota Reds but was let go after going 0 for 3. He then played for two Atlantic League clubs, hitting .266/.313/.328 in 100 games between the Road Warriors (90 G) and Long Island Ducks (10 G), starting at short for the homeless Warriors. It was the only season in his first 9 years in which he was a starter, as he would spend 2008-2012 in a utility role again. In 2008, he posted a .226/.285/.280 batting line as a utility infielder for the Camden Riversharks.

During 2009, Suarez played for the Ducks (12 for 34) and the Lancaster JetHawks in the Houston Astros system (.323/.384/.429 in 37 G). He bounced around even more than before in 2010, spent in five leagues, six teams and four organizations. He played for the Newark Bears (.271/.352/.300 in 45 G), Ducks (.259/.328/.333 in 16 G), Florence Freedom (2 for 30, 2B, 4 BB), Lakewood BlueClaws (1 for 8), Clearwater Threshers (5 for 19, 2 2B, 3 BB) and Reading Phillies (5 for 18, 2B, BB). The wandering batter spent 2011 with the Road Warriors (.216/.299/.253 in 79 G) and Kansas City T-Bones (1 for 9, 2B, 2 BB).

In 2012, Gabe played for the Great Lakes Loons (7 for 21, 4 BB), Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (.261/.320/.333 in 19 G), Vaqueros Laguna (5 for 20, BB) and Ciudad del Carmen Dolphins (0 for 1). He then appeared for the Spanish national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and excelled, going 6 for 12 with 2 doubles, 3 walks and 5 runs in four games to help them advance to the 2013 World Baseball Classic. In the Qualifier finale, he came up big from the 7th slot in the order. Playing left field, he went 3 for 4 with 2 runs as Spain beat the Israeli national team, 9-7. He doubled off Eric Berger to start Spain's first rally then singled off Berger in a 3-run 4th. He drew a David Colvin walk in the 5th and singled against Jeff Kaplan in the 7th before finally being retired by Josh Zeid in the 9th. He led his qualifier in average, OBP and runs (tied with Paco Figueroa, Nate Freiman and Yunesky Sanchez) and was one hit behind co-leaders Sanchez and Figueroa.

He later owned the San Rafael Pacifics of the Pacific Association.
