Biographical Information[edit]

Edilson Batista has pitched in the minors and for the Brazilian national team.

He participated in the 2014 MLB Elite Brazil Camp and was signed that year by the Boston Red Sox. He was 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 13 games for the 2015 DSL Red Sox 1. In the 2015 U18 Baseball World Cup, he pitched 2 1/3 innings for Brazil (2 H, 1 UER, 3 K). He moved into the DSL Red Sox 1 rotation in 2016 and did well at 5-2, 2.39.

He then joined Brazil for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He got into one game, closing out a 10-0, 7-inning mercy rule win over Pakistan. Relieving Eric Pardinho in the 7th, he retired Zubair Nawaz on a grounder, walked Fazal Ur Rehman and got Burhan Johar to hit into a force but an error by Lucas Rojo on the plat sent Johar to second and a wild pitch put him at third, putting the shutout in jeopardy. Batista then walked Adnan Butt but got Hidayat Ullah on a grounder to end the inning.

Batista was 2-4 with a 6.37 ERA for the 2017 GCL Red Sox. He improved to 0-2, 2.84 in a return stint with them in 2018 but ended his time in the Red Sox chain at 8-10, 3.96 in 46 games (33 starts). He then appeared for Brazil in the 2023 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his one appearance, he relieved Hector Villarroel in the 7th with a 3-0 deficit against host Panama. He got Carlos Sánchez on a grounder, but Edgar Muñoz took him deep for the game's final run. He retired Allen Córdoba, walked Rubén Tejada and got Jonathan Araúz to end the inning. Sulivan Ribeiro succeeded him in the 8th.
